PSW Article #8: Personal Support Worker Jobs in the Niagara Region
Personal Support Worker Jobs in the Niagara Region
The Niagara region covers a geographical range starting at Grimsby and ending at the Fort Erie US/Canada boarder. In-between it includes cities such as Niagara Falls, Welland, Grimsby, Fort Erie, Niagara on the Lake, Lincoln, & St. Catharines, to name a few. When looking for a personal support worker (PSW) job in the area I find the following three sources to be among the best places to look.:
Newspaper
Within the area the largest daily newspaper is the St.Catharines Standard. The paper covers most of the region from top to bottom in terms of their classified section. Unfortunately the online version of classified ads are only a fraction of the size of the print version, so you will need to pick a copy of the newspaper up. Copies can be found anywhere that you would buy a newspaper (gas station, magazine store, chapters, convience store, etc).
Schools
Don’t forget to contact the two big schools in the area, Brock University and Niagara College. The job boards at these schools are one of the great untapped sources for personal support worker jobs in the niagara region. You can call or go online to get a portion of the job listings, but you?ll find a better selection if you check the boards out in person.
Kijiji
Finally, I would always make a point to check Kijiji.ca for a local PSW job. These days job seekers take up a good portion of the ads, so it can be a bit of a core to shift through the ads to find a job. For the Niagara region you should search both the Hamilton & St.Catharines versions of Kijiji. Once you click on a listing you will be given the exact location of the job placement.
While there are many sources for finding personal support worker jobs in the Niagara Region, make sure to check out each of these three sources if you are looking to ad hours or gain employment in the PSW industry.
