PEI – Resident Care Worker
Prince Edward Island RCW history, courses, and job sources
Resident Care Worker (RCW) is PEI’s answer to Ontario PSW’s. After going through many changes over the past 40 years, RCW standards and educational curriculum are becoming more standardized within the province of PEI. RCW’s are unregulated health care workers, although this should not be confused with untrained.
RCW training differs at each of the four licensed educators. For example, one course offers 270 hours of theory, while another offers over 500. Co-op placements are typically around 400+ hours across the province.
As of 2009, only four institutions provided RCW courses
Eastern College – Charlottetown
College Acadie I-P-E – French Language
Marguerite Connolly training and consulting – Charlottetown
Holland College – Charlottetown, Souris, Tignish
