Health Care Aides (HCA) work within a variety of workplace setting, helping elderly, ill, disabled or mentally challenged patients within daily living activities. The average provincial wage for an HCA is $16.92 according to the government of Alberta .
Education & training has been standardized (to a point) by the Government of Alberta. A degree of leniency is given to course providers, as courses range from 15 to 32 weeks. In-field placement can be as little as 2 weeks and in some instances, employers can hire employees without their HCA and train them ‘on the job’.
