Saskatchewan – Nurses Aide & Related Fields

Saskatchewan’s interesting nurses aide related employment industry
According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education
“There are usually no post-secondary educational requirements for… nurse aides and orderlies. Training for work in these fields usually takes place on the job.”
In many cases employers become the educational system. To illustrate the point, here is a real life job ad (with company name removed)
“No prior experience is necessary and ‘Employer’ is willing to train the right person”
Employers are not given a set educational guideline, making worker standards different across the province.
Other employers will train but look for related health certificates, such as Emergency Medical Technician for example.
There are a few courses in the province. SIAST is the primary educational school in the province. They effectively over-see program standards. There course is named ‘Continuing Care Assistant’ and has a duration of 30 weeks.
There are no set rules in Saskatchewan nurse aide/psw/hca health care. Our recommendation is to contact specific employers near your place of residence and see what they require, if they offer training, etc.
